In a cooperation with the Integrationsfachdienst Schwaben, we investigated the social problem of "low-literate adults" within the course "Graphics in Space and Environment". A large part of the population is not able to read and understand standard language texts. According to the LEO Study 2018, there are about 10.6 million so-called functional illiterates in Germany, but according to the study, these people are employed and have families despite significantly limited literacy skills. With our design, we wanted to support people with disabilities, rehabilitants as well as their employers during job search and also contribute to job retention with appropriate pictograms.
In the communication between the integration service, our lecturer Prof. Dr. Markus Schröppel, and us, topics were named which we could then freely illustrate. My choice was sexuality.
