Index is a project that connects my first bachelor program with my current one. My love for language moved me to make an attempt to represent it visually. Hence Index - a community dictionary app. Similar to Wikipedia, Index is meant to capture youth language and dialects/idiolects. Or as I call it: experienced language.
This project was created within my subject UI/UX Design with Dipl.-Des. Sebastian Straßburger. Since I had already studied English and German Linguistics at RWTH Aachen University, I wanted to combine this enthusiasm with my passion for design. I drew inspiration for this project from the Urban Dictionary for the English-speaking world and the crowdsourcing possibilities of Wikipedia.
The idea was to emphasize the community aspect from the beginning. Hence the first screen with the 3 primary use cases:
1. directly to the search
2. everything from A to Z
3. contribute yourself

Within the community you need a public profile and all your contributions at a glance. That's how I solved it for the index. In settings, the logo in the background is omitted to increase readability. Here you can already see the big focus of the index to record the pronunciation, or phonetics, of experienced language.

When you look at the actual word everything from creation date and origin but also examples and again the phonetics ist recorded. You can then rate the definition and mark it as one of your favorite words in the lower corner.
The focus here is clearly on the definition and the word itself. All other information can be found at a second glance.
Whether a definition or person is actually trustworthy can be seen quite simply via the certification. If the quotes are blue, you can be sure that a person with a traditional university education was involved in the creation of that definition.

If I have now piqued your interest you can familiarize yourself with my prototype here:
